TRIP INFORMATIONS:

Meeting place: Orso Diving (Poltu Quatu west side harbour), 5min from Porto Cervo,

DEPARTURE at 9,30  a.m. Expected return around 5 p.m.

* We organize this tour only with suitable weather and maritime condition, however we suggest to bring along remedies against seasickness if you find it appropriate, considering you will stay offshore all day.

Price includes: boat trip, cold lunch, open bar, set of fins, masks and snorkels, use of binoculars and cetaceans’ handbooks, briefing on board by cetacean researcher.

To reach the area of sighting we will navigate above the submarine canyon of Caprera, known mostly by researchers and known to fishermen for the particular morphology of the seabed and the richness of life: the canyon begins near the island of Caprera reaching a depth of over 1,000 m., up to twenty miles to the east of the Strait of Bonifacio and then bending south. It is an offshore excursion without ever going ashore.

After about 60 minutes of navigation by our fast and comfortable catamaran, entertained by interesting information given by cetaceans rexpert on board, we will reach the sighting area where we’ll proceed at about 8 knots  and we will slowly go through the whole area of interest. We will be looking for spectacular sightings, watching sea surface with provided binoculars and ready with photo-video equipment to capture magical encounters. You will be directly involved in searching cetaceans, helping us to find the animals on water surface.

We call the area “the cetaceans’ triangle”, a spot area with high probability to meet striped dolphins,  fin whales, Risso’s dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, sperm whales, Cuvier’s beaked whales. We also meet often sea turtles, tunas, swordfishes and sunfishes, and mobulas (Mediterranean mantas).

Around 12:30 a.m. we will stop for offshore snorkeling and you can have an amazing swim in open water: an exciting experience above 1000 meters of depth!
Within the offshore snorkeling you can observe planktonic organisms living in offshore environment: fishes, ctenophores, krill, off-shore jellyfishes.

It should not be considered as a tourist excursion, rather as a safari at sea. We have been organising it for many years and have recorded all sightings, but still you cannot predict where, how and when we will meet animals such as:
Common whales, sperm whales, Risso’s dolphins, cuvier’s beaked whales, bottlenose and stripped dolphins, sea turtles, sunfish, mobulas, tuna and…….

Every day we check the weather forecast, which we can only consider reliable 48 hours in advance. If there is an available day during your stay we will contact you respecting the order of registration. No notification will be sent if there are no excursions available during your holiday.

You will live this incredible experience watching this amizing cetaceans in the wild on board of Scuba-Cat, a 12 meters catamaran reaching the max speed of 40 knods.

The cat is equipped for the offshore navigation (good seakeeping, double e ngines, vhs, radar, GPS, liferafts), watching tower, great stability thanks to the double hull, open spaces and good views, but also for diving and snorkeling activities.

On board at disposition:

• Cold lunch (Sardinian entree, pasta, pizza, fruit and dessert)
• Open bar with cold drinks (soft drinks), wine, hot drinks (tea, coffee) and biscuits;
• Binoculars, information material (fact sheets and texts on cetaceans),
• set of fins, mask and snorkel, that can be used in deep sea snorkeling,
• freshwater shower and bathroom with toilet.
The crew of the Orso-Cat will be composeded by the captain Corrado Azzali, the naturalist researcher Luca Bittau, a sailor / stuart / hostess to make the trip more pleasant and comfortable: there will also provide all informations concerning navigation and animals sighted.
